专辑乐评：Nyah Grace – 《Divinely Devoted》
Coming all the way from Oregon but now based in Manchester, UK you have the exceptionally talented Nyah Grace. I would say she’s an emerging talent but her debut P Honey Coloured came out in 2020. Anyhow it was 2024 when I was first introduced to Grace, the first listen of More invested me to the point where I was eagerly anticipating what is to come in the future. Signed to Palawan Productions is back with the 2nd chapter and this being Divinely Devoted. Co-written and produced with De’Jour Thomas (Chlöe, Fousheé, Monaleo), this sophomore was an exciting work of art comprising of 10 stellar cuts. Anyhow I’ve been listening to each original on constant repeat, plus I’ve listened to this record from start to finish in one sitting. All I can say is wow, if you are an admirer of both the R&B and soul genres then this LP will be right up your street. The songwriting was pin point perfection but what immersed me every time were Nyah’s buttery smooth vocal delivery.

Perfectly penned, this gleaming gem left me envisioning the aftermath of going out for the night on the tiles and ending up in the back of a cab just so you can get home safely. Now drinking can heighten the emotional state and based on the deep breath and exhale at the beginning the tipsy girl in question is pouring out how she’s feeling to the cab driver. Given the fact Grace mentions about abandoning friends leaves me thinking there was a fallout over something that’s been blown out of proportion. The whole instrumentation was sleek which gave off plenty of chilled out vibes, then you had Nyah’s buttery smooth vocals which resonated plenty of soulful goodness.
《出租车后座》：这张无可挑剔的专辑以令人脊背发麻的《出租车后座》拉开序幕。这首精心雕琢的闪亮佳作，让我仿佛看见深夜狂欢后钻进出租车后座只为安全归家的场景。酒精会放大情绪状态——从开场那声深呼吸与叹息就能听出，这位微醺女孩正向司机倾吐心事。当格蕾丝唱到"抛下朋友们"时，我猜想她可能因某些被夸大的矛盾而与人决裂。整体器乐编排流畅冷冽，搭配尼娅奶油般丝滑的嗓音，将灵魂乐的精髓展现得淋漓尽致。 Obvious: Emitting jazz vibes, the fresh and funky Obvious was an addictive treat aided by brutally honest lyrical content. Just hearing this tune for the very first time left me well and truly hooked, the gorgeous melody resonated a grooviness, Nyah’s tantalising tones were sleekly sweet whilst these words depicted being intoxicated by someone who’s not a perfect match “We go from fighting to loving in record time/ Don’t you see it in my eyes”.
显而易见：散发着爵士气息的《Obvious》是一首新鲜时髦的瘾品级佳作，直白犀利的歌词更添魅力。初次聆听便让我彻底沦陷，那优美的旋律律动感十足，Nyah 诱人的声线丝滑甜美，而歌词描绘了被不完美恋人迷醉的心境："我们从争吵到相爱只需转瞬/难道你没从我眼中看见"。 Down: Just listening to this number sends chills down my spine, once again Down is a soulfully drenched number with tinges of a gospel influence added into the mix. Now Grace’s succulent vocals soared until the very end and then you had lyrics which had all the feels. Here Nyah Grace sang about a relationship that’s slowly fracturing, it’s obvious that the flame is no longer burning bright. Despite the fact I found it to be rather heartwrenching there was an uplifting take away as Grace accepts that it’s for the best for her health/ sanity “But you just keep bringing me down/ Oh, down Down/ Breaking me down/ You keep letting me down”
坠落：光是聆听这首作品就让我脊背发凉，《Down》再次展现了灵魂乐浸染的特质，并混入些许福音音乐的影响。Grace 丰盈的嗓音一直攀升至曲终，配合字字锥心的歌词。Nyah Grace 在此吟唱一段逐渐破碎的感情，显然爱的火焰已不再明亮。尽管令人心碎，但结尾处仍透出救赎——Grace 接受分手才是对身心健康最好的选择："但你总是让我坠落/哦，不断坠落/击垮我的防线/你总是让我失望"。 Fall Into You: This was a chilled out composition, Grace’s vocal tones were rather airy and at the same time they were accompanied by a voice mail. Despite being an interlude, plenty of emotion flowed from Fall Into You as the content painted the picture of going through a tough time. Finally the answer phone message left plenty of reassurance as Nyah has a network of people who’ll be there for her.
《坠入你怀》：这是一首令人放松的曲目，格蕾丝的嗓音空灵飘逸，同时配以语音信箱元素。虽作为插曲，《坠入你怀》却饱含情感，歌词描绘了度过艰难时光的画面。最后那段电话答录留言充满温暖慰藉，展现了 Nyah 身后支持她的人际网络。 I Know: Smothered in plenty of R&B goodness, the impeccable I Know was an enchanting gem which hooked me from the get go. Nyah has also gone onto say how this number is impossible sing live. Everything about this tune was so exquisite, written to perfection I Know focused on the realisation that your current partner is your be all and end all “It’s you I’ll be growing onto/ There’s no point pretending/ It’s goddamn relentless/ I’m tethered to you”. Anyhow this captivating cut showcased Nyah’s silky smooth vocal range that’s dynamically amazing.
《我明白》：这首完美无瑕的 R&B 佳作从一开始就牢牢抓住了我。Nyah 曾坦言这首歌难以现场演绎。每个细节都精妙绝伦，歌词直指灵魂——意识到眼前人就是此生挚爱："我将与你共成长/无需再伪装/这该死的执着/我与你紧密相连"。这首迷人单曲淋漓尽致地展现了 Nyah 如丝绸般顺滑且极具张力的惊艳音域。 Only Mine: Written alongside De’ Jour Thomas and Abi Nav, this captivating cut was drenched in plenty of soulful goodness. You had a relaxing arrangement that’s easy on the ear, Grace’s sultry vocal tones were smooth like butter whilst the perfectly penned content told the tender story of a blossoming relationship which leads to the real thing.
《唯我所属》：这首歌由 De’Jour Thomas 和 Abi Nav 共同创作，充满灵魂乐的魅力，令人陶醉。其编曲舒缓悦耳，Grace 那性感撩人的嗓音如黄油般丝滑，歌词精心雕琢，娓娓道来一段萌芽中的恋情如何修成正果的温柔故事。 Without Me: Only lasting for 1 minute 45 seconds, Without Me was a short but sweet song which had all the feels. Nyah Grace’s vibrant vocals were a breath of fresh air whist you could pick up on every ounce of pain from the lyrical content. It actually painted the picture of a relationship that’s fizzled out, the worst part coming would be breaking up face to face which leads to pity pleas in hope there will be a reconsideration “Don’t say you are nothing without me/ Without me/ Without me/ You hardly know nothing about me”.
《没有我》：虽然仅 1 分 45 秒的时长，《没有我》却是一首短小精悍、情感充沛的作品。Nyah Grace 充满活力的嗓音如清风拂面，而字里行间流露的痛楚清晰可辨。这首歌生动描绘了一段已然褪色的感情，最残酷的莫过于当面分手的场景，以及那句带着卑微希冀的挽留："别说没我你一无所有/没有我/没有我/你对我根本一无所知"。 Aphrodite: I’ve been listening to this track a number of times whilst honing on the lyrical content. It may appear to be a heartfelt gem but stripping everything back Aphrodite does have a slight darkness to it. Well that’s what the chorus suggests. To be more exact this tune focused on falling for a bad apple who takes matters too heart “Now you’re here and you’re saying that it’s over So go and pull the trigger, hit the run And in two weeks time when I find you coming over Lying underneath me with the gun to my chest”. Still the rawness of the delivery also showcased Nyah’s story telling skills through the means of lyrics.
阿芙罗狄忒：我反复聆听这首歌，细细品味歌词内涵。表面看是首真挚动人的佳作，但抽丝剥茧后会发现其中暗藏阴郁——至少副歌部分如此暗示。更准确地说，这首歌聚焦于沉溺于一段有毒关系，"如今你来到面前说要结束/那就扣动扳机转身逃开/两周后当我发现你再度靠近/躺在我身下将枪口抵住胸膛"。这种赤裸的表达方式，恰恰展现了妮雅通过歌词叙事的非凡功力。 Seventeen: Everything about Seventeen was incredible. Delivered at a mellowing pace this number was a delicate delight which showcased Grace’s sultry vocal tones to perfection. In fact the tune was stripped back which created something rather tender. When both lyrics, melody and vocals were pieced together, it formed a sorrowful ballad which focused on being intoxicated by someone unhealthy which makes the thought of escapism tough as you’ll be stuck in a never ending cycle.
十七岁：《十七岁》的每个细节都令人惊叹。以舒缓的节奏铺陈，这首细腻动人的作品将格蕾丝慵懒的声线展现得淋漓尽致。极简的编曲反而营造出极致脆弱感，当歌词、旋律与人声交织时，便形成一首关于沉沦的悲歌——明知深陷不健康的关系却难以抽离，如同困在永无止境的循环里。 I Can’t Love You The Same: Divinely Devoted concluded with I Can’t Love You The Same, this sumptuous song was a mesh of R&B meets soul which I found to be a captivating combination. Packed with plenty of emotion, I Can’t Love You The Same focused on a relationship which has reached a natural end. The flame has fizzled out and Grace has fallen out of love. There was no malice in the lyrical content as the man in question was heartbroken when Nyah broke things off “You won’t look me in my eyes/ And it’s killing me inside”. Judging from that pre chorus, these two looked perfect on paper which then made things difficult when deciding to go separate ways. At the end of the day you need to put yourself first rather than clinging onto hope that a relationship could right itself. Still this number was utterly faultless, those vocals were tenderly truthful/ raw and the gospel tinged harmonies made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on edge.
《无法再爱你如初》：专辑《Divinely Devoted》以这首华丽歌曲收尾，R&B 与灵魂乐的完美交融令人沉醉。歌曲满载情感，讲述一段自然走向终点的恋情——爱火熄灭，Grace 已不再留恋。歌词毫无怨怼，当 Nyah 提出分手时，男方心碎不已："你不再直视我的双眼/这让我痛彻心扉"。从预副歌判断，这对璧人表面般配，正因如此分道扬镳才更显艰难。终究，人要先珍视自己，而非执着于破镜重圆的幻想。这首歌堪称完美，真挚赤裸的嗓音配合福音式和声，听得我寒毛直竖。
